It is customary for experts in different sectors of the ecosystem to evaluate the performance of their relevant sectors and make projections for the year ahead based on previous year’s performance. In this wise, Rapids Sports & Entertainment, DMPartners and Metis Craton have  released the 2026 edition of the Nigeria Sports Industry Outlook, a report designed to document a review of the past year and expectations for the year ahead.

Speaking on the motivation for putting up such a comprehensive report, one of the authors Adedamilola Adedotun told Sports Vanguard that “for any meaningful progress to be made in the sports sector, there has to be such a comprehensive resource document that captures the performance of the sector, what it requires to make  progress, its potentials and how to actualise them. He added that the initiative seeks to address gaps in available information about the sector.

“The report was put together by people who are in the industry and passionate about its growth and development. People who want to see increased private sector involvement. The report provides adequate information on how key actors can get returns for their investments.”

Our hope is that the practical insights provided in this report, is a simple lens that shows where things stand in the industry right now and where things can be in the year(s) ahead.

Co-curator, Tonte Davies, described the publication as an important step towards providing structured insight into the sector.

“The 2026 Nigeria Sports Industry Outlook Report is a defining document for the sports sector. It provides a clear lens into the future of sports in Nigeria —highlighting investment opportunities, addressing structural challenges, and reinforcing the urgent need to position sports as a sustainable business. For stakeholders across the value chain, it serves as both a guide and a call to action.”
