Horror blast rocks bar in Almeria leaving 1 dead and 3 injured

One person has died and at least three others have been seriously injured after an explosion rocked a bar in Spain. Firefighters and police have rushed to La Posada bar near the bullring in Almeria in the south-east of the country.

Several cars in the vicinity have been damaged by the blast, which has been described as a suspected gas explosion. The area has been sealed off following the incident, which erupted at 5.20pm local time (4.20pm BST) on April 1. A spokesperson for a regional government-run emergency response coordination centre said: “Two explosions that took place this afternoon in a cafe in Almeria city centre have left one person dead and three injured.

“The incident occurred at around 5.20pm local time in a bar on Calle Alfarerias in the city centre. We received numerous reports of an explosion, possibly caused by gas, which had triggered a fire in the premises and caused part of the facade to collapse.

“The Almería Fire Brigade, the National Police and local police were among emergency responders mobilised. Emergency services have confirmed that there were two explosions, one in the cafe and another in the adjacent garage, possibly caused by gas.

“One person has died in the incident, with no further details yet available, and three others have been injured. Two of the injured have been taken to Torrecardenas Hospital, one in a serious condition due to burns and the other with minor injuries from smoke inhalation.

“The third person affected has been taken to the health centre at the bullring, although their condition is unknown.”
