IGP deploys DIG Operations to Kaduna after Ariko Village attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of senior operational personnel to Kaduna State, following a deadly bandit attack on Ariko Village, near the Gurara Dam axis, in which five persons were killed and several others abducted.

The directive led to the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to the troubled community to coordinate a swift security response and oversee efforts to restore normalcy.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the attack occurred on April 5, 2026, when heavily armed bandits stormed ECWA and Catholic churches in the village, opening fire on worshippers.

The assault left five people dead, while about 14 others were abducted and taken to unknown destinations, sparking panic across the community.

In response, the police high command activated a joint security operation involving personnel of the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The statement noted that the team, led by DIG Nadada, has already recorded significant progress, including the rescue of seven kidnapped victims during coordinated operations in the area.

The rescued individuals were immediately taken to Katari Hospital for medical attention and have been confirmed to be in stable condition. Authorities say arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.

The police boss reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to secure the safe release of the remaining abducted victims and ensure that those behind the attack are tracked down and brought to justice.

He also called on residents of the affected communities and the general public to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in parts of Kaduna State, a region that has continued to grapple with banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities. Security agencies have intensified operations in recent months, but concerns persist over the frequency of such attacks and the safety of vulnerable populations.
