IGP Wanted To Investigate Him For Murder – Sowore On Davido’s EndSARS Exit

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has shared his thoughts on the reason Afrobeats superstar, Davido distanced himself from the #EndSARS protests.
.....
According to him, there were some behind-the-scenes dynamics that affected the musician’s decision to withdraw.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Sowore noted that while the movement had identifiable leaders, the government preferred not to have it led by individuals it could not control.
“#EndSARS had leaders, but the issue was that the government preferred not to have it led by individuals they couldn’t control,” he said.
Sowore specifically highlighted Davido’s active role in meetings during the protests. However, he explained that the situation changed when Davido traveled to Abuja to meet with former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
“Davido was present at every #EndSARS meeting. However, when he arrived in Abuja to meet with the IGP, he was informed that they wanted to investigate him regarding the murder of one of his aides. By the time he reached the meeting, he said, ‘I didn’t come to Abuja to protest,’” Sowore added.
Meanwhile, Davido has shared that he is no longer as interested in politics as he once was.
Naija News reports that the Unavailable singer said he made the decision after reflecting on the realities of the space and how it has worked out for other celebrities.
The Afrobeats singer made this known on April 5, 2026, during a livestream session on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he spoke about his past desire to go into partisan politics and how his thinking has changed over time.
Davido explained that he used to seriously consider a future in politics, but his view has shifted as he watched the experiences of entertainers who made similar moves. He said many of them did not achieve the kind of success expected, which has made him more careful about taking that path.
He said, “Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful. I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business”
