Iran Agrees To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz For Two Weeks

Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks while suspending defensive military operations, in what appears to be a step toward easing tensions in the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.
.....
Naija News reports that the announcement was made on Tuesday night by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said the arrangement would allow safe passage through the strategic waterway.
“For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations,” Araghchi said.
He added that Iran’s armed forces would suspend defensive actions if attacks against the country were halted.
“If attacks against Iran are halted, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations.”
Despite the temporary arrangement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council emphasised that the reopening of the waterway and the ceasefire agreement do not signify the end of the conflict.
According to the council, a final resolution will depend on the United States accepting conditions contained in Iran’s 10-point proposal.
“It is emphasised that this does not mean the end of the war,” the council said.
“Iran will only accept the end of the war when, in addition to accepting the principles outlined in the 10-point plan, the details are finalised in negotiations.”
The council also confirmed that negotiations between Iran and the United States will take place in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the conflict.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, U.S. President Donald Trump said he agreed to temporarily suspend military action after discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, the country’s army chief.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir… and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks

,” Trump wrote.
Reacting to the development, Sharif said both sides had shown restraint.
“Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding,” he said.
“We earnestly hope that the Islamabad talks succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days.”
Iran’s proposed 10-point plan includes several demands aimed at ending hostilities.
Among them are a guarantee that the United States will not repeat what Iran described as aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, and acceptance of uranium enrichment.
The proposal also calls for compensation payments, the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from the region, and the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Iran.
Iran has also reportedly committed to not pursuing nuclear weapons as part of the proposal.
The two-week ceasefire, which Israel has also accepted, is expected to take effect immediately.
According to NBC News, the United States has issued directives to suspend offensive military operations against Iran during the ceasefire period.
The temporary truce is expected to provide a window for diplomatic negotiations aimed at preventing further escalation in the region.
