Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei suffering ‘severe condition’ in secret location

Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s new supreme leader is reportedly being treated for a ‘severe’ medical condition and undergoing treatment at a secure site in Qom, according to an intelligence assessment. The diplomatic memo understood to be based on American and Israeli intelligence suggests that Khamenei is unconscious and being treated for a ‘severe’ medical condition in the religious city of Qom which is about 87 miles from Tehran. It also states that he is ‘unable to be involved in any decision making.’
Khamenei has not appeared in public since assuming power following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike earlier this year. Iranian officials previously confirmed that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded in the same attack that killed several members of his family, including his mother, wife, and one of his sons. At the time, authorities described his injuries as ‘minor’, but the latest diplomatic memo suggests he may be in a far more serious condition.
The diplomatic memo shared with Gulf allies and seen by The Times reveals the supreme leader’s location for the first time though it is understood that American and Israeli intelligence have had the information for some time.
It reads: “Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated in Qom in a severe condition, unable to be involved in any decision making by the regime.”
It remains unclear whether he has been unconscious following the initial strike or if additional injuries were sustained later that contributed to his current condition
The memo also states that the body of Ali Khamenei has been transferred to Qom where preparations are underway for burial.
According to the assessment, work has begun on a large mausoleum that could accommodate multiple graves, suggesting that other members of the ruling family may also be laid to rest there.
Since the attack, there has been no verified public appearance or recorded address from the new supreme leader. Two statements attributed to him have been read out on state television and a video released in recent days purporting to show him in a military setting was artificially generated. The absence of direct communication has fuelled speculation about his health and his ability to govern.
Last month, Donald Trump said that the United States has been dealing with a ‘respected leader’ but not directly with the supreme leader.
