Jos Killings: We Didn’t Know Our Bragging Would Provoke People – Gov. Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has said the recent attack on Jos South Local Government Area of the state came as a surprise because the state has attained a relative level of peace.

Naija News reports that Muftwang made the remark while speaking on the killing of many residents in the state on Palm Sunday, in an interview on Arise Television, on Wednesday.

Muftwang said the the government had bragged about Jos being the safest city in Northern Nigeria but unware that it would provoke the terrorists.

He said, “The recent attacks in Plateau came as a surprise. We had attained a relative level of peace.

“Over the last 10-11 months, we had attained peace, particularly in the city of Jos.

“We bragged that Jos was the safest city in northern Nigeria. Little did we know that would provoke people. We didn’t anticipate the attack.

“So even the community where this attack took place, took things for granted. So what we have been able to identify is that we need to step up our vigilance.

“We need to step up our intelligence gathering. We need to step up in terms of response.

“There were gaps we noticed that we need to be able to fill up, and of course, we needed to re-energize communities, re-conscientize communities as to their preparedness for this kind of eventualities.”
