Kwara 2027: APC chieftain Adebayo calls for equity, dismisses endorsement speculation

By Demola Akinyemi, Ilorin
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Alhaji Adebayo Azeez, has called on stakeholders to disregard speculation surrounding the 2027 governorship race, particularly claims of an endorsement by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adebayo, an octogenarian businessman and Chairman of HAAZ Motors, made the remarks during an interview with journalists in Ilorin.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as notable achievements in infrastructure and governance since assuming office.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has recorded significant progress across key sectors, with visible improvements in infrastructure and public service delivery,” he said.
Speaking on the political climate ahead of 2027, Adebayo stressed the importance of fairness, equity, and inclusiveness in determining the state’s next leadership.
He argued that Kwara North should be given consideration in the governorship rotation, noting that the zone has not produced a governor in the current democratic dispensation.
“Since the return to democracy in 1999, Kwara North has not had the opportunity to produce a governor. In the spirit of fairness and balance, the zone deserves consideration in 2027,” he said.
He recalled that the last time Kwara North held the governorship position was during the brief tenure of Alhaji Shaaba Lafiagi in the early 1990s.
Adebayo urged political stakeholders to prioritise unity, equity, and stability as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
