The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Bola Tinubu, describing such claims as unfounded speculation.

Speaking during an interview on Morning Brief on Channels Television, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso said there was no evidence of any strained relationship between the two leaders.

He likened their relationship to that of a father and son, stating that Tinubu has not expressed any dissatisfaction with Sanwo-Olu. According to him, claims of tension are based on “imaginary things that people imagine.”

Omotoso added that the president’s continued visits to Lagos and engagement with projects initiated under Sanwo-Olu’s administration demonstrate a healthy working relationship. He argued that no president would visit or engage closely with a state governor if there were underlying issues.

Addressing political succession ahead of the end of Sanwo-Olu’s tenure on May 29, 2027, the commissioner said discussions about a successor have not officially begun. He dismissed circulating rumours about endorsements, noting that such matters would be addressed in due course.

He also highlighted ongoing governance efforts in Lagos, including infrastructure development projects. Among them is the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, which has reportedly cost about ₦279 billion.

Defending the project’s cost, Omotoso said the scale and features of the bridge justify the expenditure. He pointed out that the project includes over five kilometres of roadway, significant bridge sections, adjoining roads, and multiple underpasses, emphasizing that “good things are expensive.”

The state government maintained that governance and development remain the priority, urging the public to disregard unverified claims about political disagreements.
