Man arrested for alleged murder of motorcyclist in Ogun

The Ogun State Police command has confirmed the arrest of one Chidi Ebere for the alleged murder of a motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.

Spokesperson for the Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to The Eagle Online on Thursday.

He said the suspect, aged 27, attacked the 36-year-old victim identified as Sunday Ogbu at about 7am with a knife in an attempt to seize the bike.

Babaseyi explained that the suspect boarded the motorcycle operated by the victim and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.

He noted that the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Detectives of the Igbesa Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested Chidi Ebere ‘M’, aged 27, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State.

“The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu ‘M’, aged 36, and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.

“A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene.

“The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Babaseyi stated.

He further noted that the suspect had been arrested with the motorcycle and knife recovered as exhibits.

The PPRO added that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured members of the public that justice will be served.

Ojajuni urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police through the command emergency lines.
