NANS Niger Republic chapter disowns self-imposed President, Abubakar Uwaisu

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Republic of Niger Chapter, NANS-RN, has distanced itself from one Abubakar Muhammad Uwaisu, accusing him of falsely parading himself as the “National President” of the association.

In a press disclaimer signed by the Secretary General of NANS-RN, Mustapha Y. Haruna, the association described Uwaisu’s claim to the leadership position as “false, baseless, and a deliberate act of impersonation and misrepresentation.”

The group said it was compelled to address what it termed “persistent and misleading activities” by the individual, stressing that he neither holds nor has ever held the office of National President of the association.

According to the statement, the recognized leadership of NANS-RN remains the only legitimate body representing Nigerian students in the Republic of Niger.

“We wish to categorically state, for the records and for the awareness of the general public, relevant government agencies, diplomatic missions, and the international community, that Mr. Abubakar Muhammad Uwaisu is not, and has never been, the National President of NANS-RN,” the statement read.

The association further alleged that Uwaisu lacked the credibility and institutional backing required to occupy such a position, adding that leadership within the student body is founded on legitimacy, due process, and the confidence of members.

NANS-RN also took a swipe at the individual over alleged academic and moral shortcomings, claiming he failed to meet eligibility requirements associated with the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, screening and aptitude processes.

The statement further referenced alleged irregularities surrounding some academic arrangements linked to the International Université Alnahada in Gusau, Zamfara State, which it claimed had already come under scrutiny by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

The association also accused Uwaisu of making disparaging remarks against the Secretary General of the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission, Musa S. Mamman, whom it described as a respected diplomat with a distinguished record of service, including at Nigeria’s mission in Sudan.

Describing the remarks as unethical and unbecoming, the association said such conduct further demonstrated that the individual lacked the moral standing to speak on behalf of Nigerian students in Niger Republic.

As part of the disclaimer, NANS-RN urged the public, media organisations, and government institutions to disregard any statement or representation made by Uwaisu in the capacity of National President of the association.

The body specifically cautioned agencies such as the NYSC, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other relevant institutions against engaging with him under any official guise.

It also appealed to international partners, diplomatic stakeholders, and student organisations to verify all official communications through recognized channels of the association.

“The authentic leadership of NANS-RN remains committed to upholding the integrity, unity, and welfare of Nigerian students in the Republic of Niger and will not hesitate to pursue all lawful measures to protect the image and legitimacy of the association,” the statement added.

The association urged stakeholders to remain vigilant and avoid being misled by unauthorized individuals claiming to represent the organization.
