Navy chief tasks personnel on fitness, resilience

Abuja: The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has charged personnel of the Nigerian Navy to remain physically and mentally fit to effectively tackle evolving security challenges.
Abbas gave the charge at the first quarter route march of the Nigerian Navy held in Abuja on Saturday.
Represented by the Director of Manning, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Kolawole Oguntuga, the naval chief commended personnel for their endurance and alertness during the exercise.
He said that physical fitness and mental resilience remained critical requirements for discharging the Navy’s constitutional responsibilities.
According to him, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a key institution in sustaining national unity and security.
He therefore urged personnel not to be distracted by ongoing challenges across operational theatres.
Abbas emphasised that the force must not allow the sacrifices of fallen heroes to be in vain, noting that sustained training and discipline were essential to achieving operational success.
He described the route march as a continuous requirement rather than a one-off activity, and urged personnel to maintain consistent fitness level.
The naval chief also noted the confidence reposed in the military by civilians, adding that personnel must therefore justify the trust through professionalism and dedication.
He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Navy, alongside other services, would continue to project strength and remain a formidable force in safeguarding the nation.
Abbas appreciated stakeholders, including participating agencies, members of the National Youth Service Corps, and the media, for their support in making the event successful.
He expressed optimism that with sustained commitment and teamwork, the Armed Forces would continue to achieve success in securing the country.
