As part of immediate measures, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, ordered the suspension of comptrollers in charge of the affected commands to ensure a transparent and unhindered probe.

In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Comptroller General strongly condemned the actions captured in the reports, describing them as a clear breach of the Service’s core values.

Nandap said such conduct was “unacceptable and a direct violation of the core values and operational standards of the Service.”

The NIS leadership directed a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying all personnel involved in the alleged extortion.

According to the statement, “a thorough investigation” has been mandated to ensure that “appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect to those found wanting.”

The Service stressed that any officer found culpable would face sanctions in line with its regulations.

Reassuring the public, the Service reiterated its commitment to professionalism and efficient service delivery across all entry and exit points in the country.

It emphasised that it would not tolerate any act capable of eroding public trust or damaging its institutional integrity.

“The Service remains unwavering in its commitment to delivering professional and efficient services,” the statement noted, adding that misconduct would not be condoned under any circumstance.

To strengthen accountability, the NIS encouraged Nigerians to report cases of misconduct through its 24-hour contact centre and official social media platforms.

Akinlabi stated that internal mechanisms were being reinforced to ensure discipline and transparency across all formations.

He added that the move underscores the Service’s mission to facilitate lawful migration while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
