Dan Ulasi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated that if Nigerians listened to former Anambra State governor Peter Obi speak in private, they would be overwhelmed with hope for the nation.
In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Ulasi made this claim.
You will have hope for our nation if you listen to Peter Obi one-on-one. He stated, “You will have a great deal of hope that someone has an idea of what he wants to do and how he will do it for the benefit of our people as a whole.”
After stating that Obi had visited his home four times in 2026 alone—most recently during an engagement at Coal City University in Enugu—the PDP stalwart made the comments.
He said, “He just gave me about 30 minutes’ notice that he was coming. And I called a couple of my friends, some top Southeasterners who were in town. And they came.”
Ulasi stated that his friendship with Obi began during his tenure as chairman of the National Republican Convention, when Obi was a candidate for governor of Anambra State, although he did not formally announce any political affiliation between them.
“I’ve known him since I was chairman of the National Republican Convention when he ran for Anambra State governor,” he remarked. He has visited my home roughly four times since then, only this year.
“And when I look at the party, you know, I mentioned earlier that the PDP has an issue. I don’t see how a credible candidate will arise to oppose Tinubu because we are a faction. Furthermore, Wike’s current procedure won’t benefit the system.
“With Wike as the national leader, I do not see my party contesting Tinubu in its current form. I will leave the party if I am not adequately informed and explained about these contradictions. Additionally, I want to be accurately quoted.
The chieftain’s comments coincided with his mounting dissatisfaction with the PDP, claiming that as long as Nyesom Wike remained its national leader, the party would not be able to launch a viable challenge against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
