Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed support for the newly formed forum of south-east former governors.
The group said the forum, led by Engr. David Umahi, is a strategic platform for advancing development in the region.
Ohanaeze said the initiative is aimed at promoting infrastructure and economic growth in the south-east, noting that the forum would also support collaboration between current governors and the federal government.
Ohanaeze said such partnership is necessary to address developmental challenges facing the region and dismissed criticisms of the forum as attempts to create division among Igbo people.
Ohanaeze said it remains committed to working with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the partnership would help advance the interests of the Igbo people.
Ohanaeze urged the forum to include former governors from Delta and Rivers states. It said Igbo-speaking communities in the two states should be accommodated.
The group suggested renaming the body to Igbo former governors forum to reflect broader inclusion.
Ohanaeze commended members who attended the inaugural meeting in Enugu. It listed Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chris Ngige, Sullivan Chime and Martin Elechi among participants.
The organisation also called on other former governors to join the forum, saying broader participation would strengthen unity among Igbo leaders.
The group endorsed the forum’s support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, noting that it aligns with the interests of the south-east and the Igbo people.
