Okoye breaks clean sheet record in Milan thrashing

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye produced a career-defining display as Udinese secured a resounding 3-0 victory over AC Milan at the San Siro, setting a new personal Serie A record with three consecutive clean sheets, PidomNigeria Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian was the standout performer on the night, anchoring a disciplined defensive display that neutralised one of the league’s most potent attacking sides and extended Udinese’s recent resurgence.

Facing sustained pressure, Okoye stood firm as Milan registered 20 shots over the course of the match.

However, only three of those efforts were on target, a reflection not only of Udinese’s defensive organisation but also the goalkeeper’s command of his area and ability to narrow angles effectively.

His most decisive contributions came in key moments, particularly in denying Luka Modrić on two occasions.

With an expected goals on target figure of 30.49 against him, his actual concession of 26 goals demonstrates efficiency above expectation.

In addition, he has dealt with pressure situations effectively, saving one of the six penalties he has faced and limiting errors, with only two directly leading to goals.

His proactive style is also evident, having acted as a sweeper on six occasions and completed 19 high claims to relieve pressure.

In possession, Okoye has contributed to Udinese’s build-up play, completing 472 passes at a success rate of 63.1 per cent, including 166 accurate long balls, offering an outlet for transitions from defence to attack.

His recent form has not only boosted Udinese’s competitiveness but has also reinforced his status as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.
