Okpebholo targets 15 communities as he inspects Edo Central road projects

BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Sunday inspected the second phase of key road projects in Edo Central, aimed at expanding infrastructure and opening up rural communities for economic growth.

The roads include the Amedokhian–Iruele–Awo Road and the Unewa–Ohe–Uzea–Awo Road in Esan North East and Esan Central, marking the next phase of development after completion of the first section.

Okpebholo said the 26-kilometre stretch would link Awo and its railway station, extending connectivity across the area.

“This is the second phase. By the end of the day, we should be able to link up with other communities,” he said, noting that over 15 communities would benefit.

Special Adviser on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Engr. Williams-Bello Phoebe, said the project would boost rural access, link communities to the railway at Ohe, and support farming activities.

She added that the largely undeveloped area holds strong potential, with contractors already conducting preliminary assessments and work set to proceed swiftly.

The governor stressed that improved road connectivity would ease the movement of goods and people, reduce travel time, and stimulate local commerce across the benefiting communities.

He further noted that the ongoing road expansion aligns with his administration’s broader agenda to strengthen infrastructure, enhance agricultural value chains, and drive inclusive development in rural parts of the state.
