Ondo People’s Assembly dismisses ORF claims, backs Aiyedatiwa on security gains

The Ondo People’s Assembly (OPA) has faulted a reported press conference by a faction of the Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), describing its claims on the security situation in Ondo State as misleading, exaggerated, and driven by ulterior motives.

Addressing the media on Thursday, in Lagos, the Assembly, through its Convener, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, said the narrative pushed by the ORF was a “recycled campaign of calumny” aimed at discrediting the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The group did not mince words in its criticism, describing members of the ORF as “disgruntled politicians masquerading as activists,” whose recent activities have centred on what it termed persistent attempts to blackmail the state government.

According to the OPA: “The so-called concerns raised by the ORF are not only unfounded but deliberately crafted to create panic and erode public confidence.

“These individuals have, over the past few months, made a habit of distorting facts and peddling falsehoods, all in a desperate bid to remain politically relevant.”

Faulting the key issues raised in the reported press conference, the OPA maintained that contrary to ORF’s claims of worsening insecurity, Ondo State has witnessed measurable improvements in security operations under the current administration.

It highlighted the strengthening of collaboration between local vigilante groups and security agencies, increased surveillance across flashpoints, and prompt response mechanisms that have curtailed criminal activities in several communities.

“The reality on ground clearly contradicts the alarmist position of the ORF. Kidnapping and banditry incidents have been significantly reduced in many parts of the state due to proactive measures introduced by this administration,” the statement noted.

The assembly further commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritising security through strategic investments and policy coordination, adding that such efforts have restored confidence among residents and investors alike.

While acknowledging that security challenges remain a national concern, the OPA emphasised that Ondo State has not been isolated from broader efforts at tackling insecurity and should not be singled out for political manipulation.

It therefore urged the people of Ondo State to remain vigilant against “propaganda disguised as activism,” and to continue supporting the government’s initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability.

“The people must not allow themselves to be misled by individuals whose stock-in-trade is sensationalism and blackmail. The progress recorded so far is evident, and with continued public support, the state will achieve even greater milestones in ensuring safety and development,” he concluded.
