One k!lled and 14 injured after British tourist bus crashes into ravine in Canary Islands

A tourist bus crash has left one person dead and more than a dozen injured after the vehicle veered off a mountain road on La Gomera in the Canary Islands.

The incident occurred near San Sebastián de La Gomera during the final days of the Easter half-term holiday. Local reports indicate that all passengers on board were British tourists.

Emergency services said a man died at the scene, while at least 25 people were taken to La Gomera General Hospital, with some transported by helicopter. Three passengers were reported to have sustained serious injuries, and one critically injured person was transferred to a hospital in Tenerife.

According to the driver, the crash may have been caused by brake failure while descending the winding GM-2 road. He reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle by steering onto a dirt track before it overturned on the mountainside.

“They had left the hotel to head to Tenerife on the ferry. They were all British,” a hotel staff member said. Images from the scene show the bus lying on its side several metres from the road, with multiple ambulances and medical teams deployed by 112 Canarias.

Fernando Clavijo expressed condolences to the victims and their families following the incident. The crash highlights the risks of navigating La Gomera’s steep and winding roads, which run through mountainous terrain and are known for their sharp bends and dramatic drops.
