Pakistan PM confirms Iran, US and allies agreed to ‘immediate ceasefire’

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that Iran, the United States, and their allies have agreed to an “immediate ceasefire” across multiple conflict zones, including Lebanon.

Sharif made the announcement in a post on X on Wednesday, describing the development as a significant step toward restoring peace and stability.

“With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,” he wrote.

The Pakistani leader welcomed the agreement, commending the parties involved for what he described as a wise and constructive decision.

“I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries,” Sharif added.

He also invited representatives of the involved parties to Islamabad for further negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting resolution.

Sharif said delegations are expected to meet in Pakistan’s capital on Friday, April 10, 2026, for what he termed the “Islamabad Talks.”

The prime minister expressed optimism that the dialogue would help resolve outstanding disputes and consolidate the ceasefire agreement.

“Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability,” he said.

He further noted that there is hope for more positive developments in the coming days, adding, “We earnestly hope that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days.”

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in parts of the Middle East, with the ceasefire expected to ease hostilities and open the door for diplomatic engagement.
