Plateau Govt Gives Update On Curfew Imposed After Jos Killings

The Plateau State Government has announced a partial relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area following Sunday’s violent attack in the community.

Under the directive of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the curfew will now run from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, allowing residents to move freely between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., beginning April 1, 2026.

During the relaxed hours, residents are permitted to go about their normal and lawful activities, while security agencies continue to monitor the area to ensure stability.

The state government urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding as authorities work to restore lasting peace in the affected community.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government appreciated residents for their patience and cooperation during the curfew.

“The Plateau State Government appreciates the cooperation and resilience of the public during this period and reiterates its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state

,” the statement read.

Tension recently gripped Angwan Rukuba after suspected terrorists reportedly dressed in military uniforms stormed the community and opened fire on residents, killing several people.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday evening, heightened fears among residents of the area.

An eyewitness, Nyam Isaac, said the attackers arrived at about 8 p.m. and began shooting indiscriminately in what he described as a busy market environment.

The state government imposed the curfew shortly after the incident in an effort to restore order and prevent further violence.
