Poland 2026: Falconets arrive Ikenne for Malawi clash

Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have concluded an intensive three-week training camp in Abuja as they step up preparations for their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Malawi.

The team will depart for Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Sunday, where they will host the first leg of the final qualifying round on Saturday, May 2.

The Abuja camp was marked by rigorous drills, tactical sessions, and fitness work as the players sought to reach peak condition ahead of the decisive fixture.

Head coach Moses Aduku expressed confidence in his team’s readiness, praising their commitment throughout the preparation period.

“The girls have shown great character and determination throughout the camping period,” Aduku said. “We have worked extensively on our tactics, fitness, and team cohesion. I am optimistic about our readiness and confident that the players will rise to the occasion.”

Team captain Joy Igbokwe also reinforced the squad’s focus, calling for support from Nigerians ahead of the crucial tie.

“We are fully prepared and focused on the task ahead,” she said. “We ask Nigerians for their prayers and support as we go into this important match.

We are determined to make the country proud.”

The Falconets will be aiming to secure a strong first-leg advantage as they continue their push for qualification for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, scheduled for September 5–26.

Nigeria boast an impressive record in the competition, having qualified for every edition since its inception as an U19 tournament in 2002.
