Police meet US Consulate delegates on transnational fraud

The Commissioner, Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, CP Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, has held a strategic meeting with a delegation of Overseas Crime Investigators of the United State Consulate in Lagos.

The meeting with the US delegation, led by Special Agent Jonathan McAlister, was held at the PSFU office in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration in the fight against visa fraud and other forms of transnational financial crimes.

The high-level engagement focused on enhancing intelligence sharing, operational cooperation, and mutual capacity building to tackle contemporary and sophisticated cross-border fraud schemes. 

Discussions also centred on emerging trends in visa-related fraud, cyber-enabled crimes, and the need for coordinated enforcement strategies to effectively disrupt criminal networks operating across jurisdictions.

Speaking during the meeting, CP Okpoziakpo reiterated the Unit’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led investigations, emphasising that international collaboration remains a critical component in combating transnational crimes. 

He noted that partnerships of this nature will significantly improve investigative outcomes, facilitate timely information exchange, and strengthen the overall capacity of the Unit to address complex crimes.

The US delegation commended the efforts of the Police Special Fraud Unit in combating fraud-related offences and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation through technical support, joint training, and enhanced information-sharing mechanisms.

The Police Special Fraud Unit assured members of the public of its continued dedication to safeguarding the integrity of financial systems and protecting citizens from fraud, while working closely with international partners to bring perpetrators of cross-border crimes to justice.
