Police rescue abducted two-year-old in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old boy abducted in the state, arrested three suspects, and recovered ₦930,000 from the ransom paid by the victim’s family.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, and signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, detailing how the child was kidnapped and later rescued through an intelligence-led operation.

According to Kiyawa, the incident occurred on April 19, when a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area reported that his son, Aliyu Muhammad, aged two, was abducted in front of their residence.

“The suspects subsequently established contact and demanded a ransom of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000.00), which was paid by the victim’s family. Despite receiving the ransom, they failed to release the child,” the statement read.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to act.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to activate all operational and intelligence assets and swing into action,” the police said.

The command added that sustained operations led to a breakthrough.

“Through sustained follow-up, and technical operation, the hideout was identified and the suspects were arrested,” it stated.

The suspects, Hassan Umar, Abdullahi Hamisu, and Hussaini Saminu, were all traced to Gwammaja Quarters, where the victim was being held.

“Investigation revealed that the two-year-old victim was held captive at the residence of Hussaini Saminu within Gwammaja Quarters. He was successfully rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family,” the statement noted.

Police operatives also recovered a significant portion of the ransom.

“A sum of Nine Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (₦930,000.00), being part of the ransom paid, was recovered from the suspects,” it added.

Commending the operatives, Bakori said their actions demonstrated professionalism and tactical precision.

“The Commissioner of Police commends the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision in rescuing the victim unhurt,” the statement said.

The command also reaffirmed its stance against violent crimes, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information.
