Pope Leo spins basketball on finger with help of Harlem globetrotters (video)

Pope Leo XIV shared a lighthearted moment at St. Peter’s Square after welcoming the Harlem Globetrotters, even trying his hand at spinning a basketball.

During the visit, one of the Globetrotters helped position the ball on the pope’s finger, guiding him through the trick as onlookers watched. While the player appeared to do most of the work, the moment still drew applause from the crowd.

The pope also reflected on his admiration for the legendary Chicago Bulls era featuring Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, recalling the team’s dominance during his younger years.

Since assuming his role nearly a year ago, Pope Leo XIV has had several notable public moments, from engaging in charity initiatives to navigating diplomatic interactions on the global stage.

Although the basketball trick may not have been entirely solo, the moment highlighted a more playful side of the pontiff as he connected with the visiting performers.
