Putin Offers To Mediate Iran–US Conflict After Failed Talks

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on Sunday, held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, offering Moscow’s support in resolving the escalating Middle East crisis following the collapse of negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The Kremlin disclosed this in a statement after the call, noting that Russia was ready to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

According to the Kremlin, Putin expressed readiness to help broker a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

“Vladimir Putin emphasised his readiness to further facilitate the search for a political and diplomatic settlement to the conflict, and to mediate efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,” the statement said.

The call came shortly after talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad ended without an agreement.

Meanwhile, the entire US negotiating team has departed Pakistan after the discussions failed to produce progress.

A US official confirmed that no members of the delegation remained in Islamabad to continue back-channel negotiations.

The delegation reportedly included chief negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who left after marathon talks failed to produce meaningful breakthroughs in the conflict involving Iran.

During a stopover at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, an official travelling with US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that all members of the team had withdrawn, despite earlier expectations that some officials might remain for further discussions.

Reacting to the breakdown of the talks, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said the American delegation had failed to establish trust during the negotiations.

“My colleagues in the Iranian delegation put forward constructive initiatives, but the other side was unable to gain the trust of the Iranian delegation,” he said in a post on 𝕏.

The stalled negotiations have heightened concerns about further escalation in the Middle East as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain uncertain.
