Real Zaragoza goalkeeper handed 13 game ban after punching opponent

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada has been handed a 13-match ban after punching an opponent during a heated Spanish second-division derby.

The Spanish Football Federation confirmed the suspension following the incident in a match between Real Zaragoza and SD Huesca. Andrada had already been sent off late in the game after receiving a second yellow card before he ran towards Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and punched him, sparking a mass brawl.

The disciplinary committee imposed a 12-match ban for the assault, in addition to the automatic one-match suspension for the red card, effectively ruling the goalkeeper out for the remainder of the season. Both Andrada and his club were also fined.

The altercation led to further dismissals, with Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez receiving a four-match ban and Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende suspended for two matches.

Andrada later apologised for his actions, admitting he “lost focus” and took responsibility for the incident. “It’s not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself. So, I’m very sorry,” he said.

Zaragoza also condemned the incident, calling the scenes “unbecoming” and confirming that internal disciplinary measures would be taken. The suspension is a major setback for Zaragoza as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.
