Saraki, Mimiko, Osoba, Other Former Governors To Hold Inaugural Forum Meeting

The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria (FGF) has announced that its inaugural meeting will take place in April in Abuja, a move aimed at institutionalising the collective experience of former state executives for national development.

The forum disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Governors Forum.

According to Onaiwu, the meeting will bring together former governors from across the country to contribute their experience to governance, policy development, and national stability.

Onaiwu described the gathering as a historic convergence of experienced leaders who have previously governed their states and played significant roles in Nigeria’s democratic development.

He said the forum is designed as a non-partisan platform that will draw on the institutional knowledge and leadership experience of former governors.

“This inaugural meeting represents more than a formal gathering—it is the beginning of a structured national intervention,” he said.

“At a time when the country faces complex governance and developmental challenges, the need to draw from tested leadership and practical experience has never been more compelling.”

The meeting is expected to feature several prominent former governors whose contributions to governance have been widely acknowledged.

Among them are Chief Victor Attah, former two-term governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Chief Olusegun Osoba, veteran journalist and former two-term governor of Ogun State.

Also expected is Dr Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo State and a former Federal Minister.

Other participants include Dr Olusola Saraki, former Senate President and former governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, former governor of Katsina State, and Chief Ikedi Ohakim, former governor of Imo State.

Onaiwu emphasised that the forum is not intended to operate as a political bloc but as a platform for constructive engagement on national issues.

He said the initiative aims to bridge past leadership experience with current governance challenges.

“The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria is a deliberate effort to transform experience into impact,” he said.

“It is about continuity in leadership thinking, strengthening institutions, and ensuring that the lessons of governance are not lost but are instead applied to current and future challenges.”

According to the organisers, the inaugural meeting will establish the structure and strategic direction of the forum.

It is also expected to define the role of former governors in contributing to national discourse and policy development.

The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria said it remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions and supporting the development of a stable, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
