Security sources disclosed that the successful operation followed credible intelligence reports indicating that the armed group was planning a large-scale assault on the communities.
According to the sources, the joint security team acted swiftly by laying an ambush for the attackers before they could reach their targets.
Sources told Zagagola Makama that the bandits, numbering more than 300 and riding on motorcycles, were heavily armed and heading toward the communities when they were intercepted by security operatives and local vigilantes.
“Over 300 bandits armed with dangerous weapons and on motorcycles were headed to the communities. Unfortunately for them, security operatives and local vigilantes, who had credible intelligence on their movements, ambushed them,” the source said.
The ambush reportedly resulted in the death of scores of the attackers, while many others fled the scene.
“Scores were killed while many others fled toward the Makuba and Allawa axis
,” the source added.
Residents of Bagna and Erena communities expressed relief and appreciation to the security agencies and volunteer forces for preventing what they described as a potential disaster.
One resident said the swift response of the security team saved the communities from a devastating attack.
“We are very happy. We thank the joint security forces for protecting us,” the resident said.
Sources noted that the operation highlights the growing collaboration between security agencies and local volunteer forces in tackling insecurity in rural communities.
According to the source, the improved coordination has helped strengthen community defence and close security gaps in vulnerable areas.
“We are witnessing an increase in collaboration between security agencies and local volunteer forces. This has led to a bridging of security gaps and making the first line of defence against insecurity very effective,” the source said.
