Terrorists kill 22 in Niger, Plateau, scores in Kebbi

Gunmen have reportedly killed no fewer than 20 persons in several communities in Niger State and dozens more in Kebbi.

Also, yesterday, terrorists attacked miners at a mining site in Kok village, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one person and struck Chenye village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area of the state, killing another person.

Similar attacks were reported in Kebbi communities, where suspected bandits killed dozens and set homes ablaze. Sources indicated that the raids affected Debbe, Shabanda, and nearby villages.

Reuters reports that the Niger State attack occurred in Shiroro LGA, where residents said the assailants operated for hours, destroying homes and overwhelming security personnel. Many villagers reportedly fled to nearby towns such as Gwada, Zumba, and Galadima Kogo for safety.

The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that gunmen invaded Bagna and Erena villages on Tuesday. 

“Two community guards and a driver were killed, while others sustained injuries,” he said.

Terrorists kill 2, injure 2 in Plateau

The victim was identified as Mr. Ayuba Pam, 36.

The attack occurred about 6:10 p.m.,  as people were leaving the site.

In a related incident,  gunmen struck Chenye village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area of the state, killing another person.

The attackers targeted both the mining site in Barkin Ladi and the Bachit community in Riyom.

Vanguard gathered that the terrorists stormed the mining site in Barkin Ladi and opened fire indiscriminately, killing one person and  injuring  two others.

Nefort Daniel, a resident of Bachit, told newsmen that the attackers stormed the community and fired sporadically.

In Riyom, the gunmen also stormed the community and shot a man dead.

The incidents has created confusion and fear in both communities, Nenfort told newsmen .

Rwang Tengwong,  National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth  Moudlers also confirmed both incident to newsmen in Jos.

He promised to give more details of the incident to our correspondent.

in Kebbi

The Kebbi police spokesman, Bashir Usman, confirmed the attacks but said the exact number of casualties is still being verified. “At about 2230hours, suspected Mamudawa terrorist elements attacked the villages, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property,” Usman said.

“Police tactical teams from Illo Division swiftly responded, intercepted the attackers, neutralised two of them, and recovered a Niger Republic Army uniform and Immigration uniforms..

“While reports are still being verified, the command cannot confirm the casualty figures circulating. However, we deeply sympathise with the affected communities.”

Usman stated that additional security personnel have been deployed to prevent further attacks. “Security personnel have been reinforced and are actively on the ground to forestall further attacks,” he said, urging the public to remain calm as more details emerge.
