Tinubu gave me free hand as minister — Onyejeocha, to declare ambition soon

By Steve Oko
UMUAHIA — Immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has attributed her success and the relative peace recorded in the ministry during her tenure to the “free hand” granted her by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at a grand homecoming reception organised in her honour by the people of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Onyejeocha expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in her and the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.
She also dropped a strong hint about her political future, signaling an imminent declaration of her ambition ahead of the 2027 elections, amid mounting calls from constituents urging her to return to the National Assembly.
The former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives recalled key interventions she facilitated while in office, particularly federal efforts that helped address the persistent erosion challenges in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi.
She further listed projects such as educational institutions, youth employment opportunities, scholarships, and annual medical outreaches as part of her contributions to the constituency.
While urging continued support for President Tinubu, Onyejeocha decried what she described as attempts by some political actors to undermine her influence in Umunneochi.
“There are not enough demons to stop me,” she declared, reaffirming her confidence in divine backing and her determination to fulfill her political destiny.
She disclosed that although several supporters had offered to purchase her nomination forms, she had already made provisions for that.
The former lawmaker added, however, that such funds could be redirected to her annual free medical outreach if her supporters insist on footing the bill.
In recognition of her contributions, traditional rulers in Umunneochi conferred on her the chieftaincy title “Anyanwu Nenye Ihe I” (the sun that gives light).
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, Chairman of the Umunneochi Traditional Rulers’ Advisory Council, HRH Eze Franklin Ohalezim, described Onyejeocha as an outstanding leader and a valuable asset to both the constituency and the Igbo nation.
He cited her role in attracting federal institutions such as the Federal School of Aviation and the Federal Polytechnic, Ngodo Isuochi, alongside other developmental strides including annual free medical outreachs, scholarship schemes , among others.
Speaking also, Abia State APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, praised Onyejeocha as “an epitome of hard work and integrity,” noting that her public service record remains free of scandal.
“She has made Ndigbo proud,” he said, urging stakeholders to support her for higher responsibilities.
Representing President Tinubu, APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa, commended Onyejeocha’s performance in office and assured party members of a transparent and fair primary process ahead of future elections.
He urged her constituents to support her in her future political ambitions.
The event also featured the conferment of the chieftaincy title “Ikeoha” (Strength of the People) on President Tinubu.
Dignitaries at the well-attended ceremony included Abia State Renewed Hope Ambassador, Chief Henry Ikoh; Coordinator of City Boy Movement, Don Lulu; former House of Representatives member, Emeka Atuma; former Chairman of Isuikwuato LGA, Hon. Chima Agbaeze, and other APC stalwarts and political figures from across party lines.
