Tinubu’s Ambassadorial picks signal Nigeria’s renewed global push — Reps Spokesman

Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has described the recent ambassadorial postings by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a bold step towards strengthening Nigeria’s influence on the global stage.

Speaking in Abuja, Agbese said the appointments reflect a broader national strategy aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s diplomacy, enhancing its international credibility, and amplifying its voice in multilateral institutions.

He noted that at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics, Nigeria must assert itself more effectively in global decision-making processes, adding that the new diplomatic lineup demonstrates the administration’s commitment to that goal.

Agbese particularly highlighted the nomination of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, describing it as a move with far-reaching implications beyond the country.

According to him, Ibrahim’s blend of legislative experience, business acumen, and international exposure positions Nigeria to play a more active role in global peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.

He stressed that Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous nation, has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to resolving crises in volatile regions, including the Middle East, and to promote dialogue in an increasingly polarised world.

“His appointment underscores Nigeria’s readiness to not only participate but also lead in shaping global peace and security conversations,” Agbese said.

The lawmaker added that the development could also strengthen Africa’s collective voice in international affairs, noting that Nigeria’s representation at the UN would help advance continental interests and foster stronger diplomatic and economic ties with other regions.

Agbese dismissed criticisms surrounding the appointments, maintaining that the selected envoys possess the competence and strategic insight required to deliver on Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.

He expressed optimism that the new ambassadors would drive economic diplomacy, open up investment opportunities, and reinforce Nigeria’s partnerships across the globe.

He further called on Nigerians to rally behind the administration’s diplomatic efforts, emphasizing that a unified national outlook is essential for achieving sustainable development and greater global relevance.
