Trump humiliated as US and Israel flags burned in Iran as 'death to America' chanted

Israel supports the ceasefire but said the deal doesn’t cover its fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon. It is not clear when the ceasefire would begin, but since its announcement, strikes have been reported in Israel, Iran and nations across the Gulf. Pro-government demonstrators in the streets of Iran’s capital screamed: “Death to America, death to Israel, death to compromisers!” after the ceasefire was confirmed on Wednesday morning.

People also burned American and Israeli flags in a sign of the ongoing anger from many hardliners.

The agreement includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas passes.

Iran’s de facto closure of the narrow waterway has sent economic shockwaves across the globe.

Mr Trump confirmed the US will help with the buildup of shipping traffic in the strait.

He said in a post on Truth Social: “There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process. We’ll be loading up with supplies of all kinds, and just “hangin’ around” in order to make sure that everything goes well.

“I feel confident that it will. Just like we are experiencing in the U.S., this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!!”

Both Washington and Tehran have looked to use the ceasefire to claim victory in the war which started after US-Israel strikes in late February.

Mr Trump told the AFP news agency the deal was a “total and complete victory” for the US, while Iran’s Supreme National Security Council claimed it had “achieved a great victory”.

“The enemy has suffered an undeniable, historic and crushing defeat in its cowardly, illegal and criminal war against the Iranian nation,” it said in a statement.

The negotiations have been mediated by Pakistan which has invited delegations to meet in Islamabad on Friday for further talks.
