Trump Suspends Attack On Iran For Two Weeks After Pakistan-brokered Talks

United States President Donald Trump has announced that Washington has agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, a move aimed at creating room for negotiations to end the ongoing hostilities.
.....
Trump disclosed the development in a post on his Truth Social platform, stating that the agreement was reached following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
According to the US president, the temporary ceasefire is conditional on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil and other commodities.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote.
Trump explained that the ceasefire would allow both sides to finalise discussions toward a long-term agreement.
He said the United States had already achieved its military objectives and that negotiations were progressing toward a broader peace framework for the Middle East.
“The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East,” he added.
According to Trump, the US had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which Washington believes could form the foundation for a lasting settlement.
“We received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated

,” he said.
Reports indicate that Israel has also agreed to the two-week ceasefire and has halted bombing and other military operations.
The agreement was announced roughly two hours before the expiration of Trump’s earlier deadline, during which he had threatened that Iran’s “whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if its leadership failed to make significant concessions.
Iranian authorities have described the development as a major diplomatic victory, claiming the agreement forced the United States to accept the country’s proposed framework for negotiations.
In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the ceasefire followed what it described as a historic defeat for Washington.
“The enemy, in its unfair, unlawful, and criminal war against the Iranian nation, has suffered an undeniable, historic, and crushing defeat,” the council said.
The council added that the 10-point plan includes provisions for the regulated passage through the Strait of Hormuz under the coordination of Iran’s armed forces.
It also claimed that the United States had agreed to lift both primary and secondary sanctions imposed on Iran as part of the emerging framework.
