What we discussed with de-recognised ADC — PDP faction

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that its Wednesday visit to the de-recognised David Mark leadership of the African Democratic Party (ADC) shows solidarity ahead of 2027 elections.

It described the engagement as timely, citing rising political realignments and increased consultations among opposition figures.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP leaders, including the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, held a closed-door meeting at Mark’s residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The meeting, attended by prominent political figures, lasted about two hours between 5pm and 7pm, focusing on national developments and inter-party cooperation.

Sources at the meeting said discussions centred on strengthening democratic institutions, electoral transparency, and building alliances capable of deepening Nigeria’s multiparty system.

Speaking to journalists, Makinde said the visit underscored the PDP’s commitment to strengthening democratic values and supporting like-minded political actors across party lines.

He said: “We came here to visit the leadership of ADC. 

“We are on a solidarity visit.

“We have observed developments within the political space, including protests by ADC members, and felt it necessary to show support.”

Makinde noted that constructive engagement among political actors remained essential to preserving democratic norms and preventing actions capable of undermining public confidence in governance.

“We are committed to ensuring a truly democratic space in our country,” he said.

He emphasised that collaboration among parties should prioritise national interest, stability, and respect for the rule of law ahead of the electoral season.

Those present included former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu; and members of the factional PDP National Working Committee.

Also in attendance were former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Others were former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; ADC National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was also present, alongside other senior political figures who participated in the deliberations.

Observers say the meeting signals intensifying consultations and possible alignments that may shape the political landscape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
