Why I’m seeking re-election — Benue lawmaker

A member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Peter Uche (APC/Guma I), says he is seeking re-election to utilise the experience he has gained as a first-time legislator to offer better representation.

Uche stated this on Sunday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi.

The lawmaker said his constituency needed an experienced legislator to make quality laws and attract more dividends of democracy to the area.

“There is no legislator who goes to the assembly and would not want to return, especially as a first-timer.

“The learning curve is steep, and it takes time to understand how to navigate committees, influence decisions, and attract development.

“So, by the grace of God, I intend to contest again so I can build on the experience I have gained and do more for my people.

“In my first tenure, which is still ongoing, I have modest achievements like sinking boreholes in Yogbo and Daudu and the ones I am still working on.

“I have consistently raised several motions to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the security situation in my constituency. I co-sponsored bills, which is the core mandate of a legislator,” he stated.

According to him, the legislative system has its challenges, but with experience, one understands how to navigate it better.

“If given another opportunity, I believe the narrative will change.

“There will be new members, new dynamics, and hopefully a more cooperative legislative environment focused on development,” he added.
