“I’m banking on Nigeria not getting better, my prayer is different from yours” – Billionaire Keji Giwa

Nigerian billionaire Keji Giwa has sparked reactions online after making a controversial statement about Nigeria’s future and the mindset required to survive in the country’s business environment.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Giwa said many people misunderstand how business and politics are deeply connected in Nigeria, adding that entrepreneurs who ignore this reality are at risk of losing everything they have built.

“Anybody doing business in Nigeria that doesn’t think politics is part and parcel of their success in doing business in Nigeria has no business doing business in Nigeria,” he stated.

He explained that business owners often face criticism for aligning with political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and his administration, but insisted that such relationships are necessary for protecting investments and ensuring stability in a challenging environment.

Giwa further stirred reactions when he spoke about his personal outlook on the country’s development, saying he is not emotionally dependent on Nigeria’s progress.

“My prayer is different from yours. I’m banking on Nigeria not getting better,” he added.

He also stated a policy within his organization, noting that any staff member who says “God will provide” would be sacked instantly.

The billionaire’s statement have since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians divided over his blunt honesty, while others criticized his perspective on the country’s future.
