18-year-old teenager jailed for r@ping his 42-year-old aunty

A teenage man from Gokwe South has been sentenced to an effective 15 years behind bars after being convicted of r@ping his 42-year-old aunt in a case that shocked the local community.

The conviction follows an incident on 16 May 2026, when the pair were reportedly walking to a nearby village for casual labour. Prosecutors said the teenager attacked the woman along the way before a passerby intervened and alerted authorities.

The details were released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in its bulletin dated 2 June 2026. According to the NPAZ, the incident happened at around 0500 hours while the victim and the offender were travelling together.

The prosecution authority said the teenager suddenly turned on the woman during the journey. In its bulletin, the NPAZ stated: “Along the way, the offender turned on the victim, grabbing her by the neck and tripping her to the ground.”

The authority said the woman resisted and fought back but was ultimately overpowered. Prosecu tors further indicated that the attack was interrupted by a member of the public who heard cries for help coming from nearby bushes.

The NPAZ said: “The attack was interrupted when a passerby heard shouting and distress noises coming from the bush.” According to the authority, the passerby rushed to the scene and allegedly caught the offender in the act. After intervening, the passerby reportedly helped the victim and ensured that she returned home safely.

The NPAZ said the witness also played a crucial role in ensuring the matter was reported to law enforcement authorities. The prosecution authority stated: “A formal report was subsequently made to the police, leading to the immediate arrest of the offender and his subsequent conviction.”

Court proceedings resulted in the teenager being found guilty and sentenced to an effective 15-year prison term. Following the conviction, the National Prosecuting Authority reiterated its stance against s3xual violence and warned offenders that they would face the full consequences of the law.

The case is one of several gender-based violence matters highlighted by the NPAZ as it continues its campaign against s3xual offences across Zimbabwe. Authorities have encouraged members of the public to report such crimes promptly to ensure offenders are brought before the courts.
