Armed police descend near England's first World Cup game stadium over 'serious' incident

A SWAT team and a huge number of armed police responded to an alleged incident approximately a mile from where England is to kick off their World Cup campaign in two days’ time. Dozens of Arlington Police vehicles could be seen stationed on West Division Street in the Texas city on Monday, a short drive from the AT&T Stadium where the Three Lions take on Croatia on Wednesday.

An officer at the scene described the alleged incident as “pretty serious”. Police snipers, an armoured BearCat vehicle and police drones were used at the scene, with a huge number of officers sent to the area. A spokeswoman for the Arlington Police Department said the force were responding to a domestic dispute between a male and female at their home address.

She added: “The female resident was barricaded inside the home with additional occupants.

“The report shows that a weapon was produced but no injuries were reported. The suspect is now in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”

There is no indication the incident was connected to the World Cup or posed any threat to the tournament or its venues.
