FRSC records 25.65% drop in road accidents during 2026 Eid el-Kabir patrol

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has recorded significant reductions in road crashes, casualties, and injuries during its 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations, marking one of its most remarkable achievements in recent years.

In a statement issued Saturday, June 6, 2026, by Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps attributed the success to proactive traffic management, intensive public enlightenment, robust enforcement, and improved emergency response deployed before, during, and after the Sallah period.

Key figures from the operation:

1. Road crashes dropped by 25.65%, from 191 cases in 2025 to 142 in 2026.
2. People involved in crashes fell by 22%, from 1,364 persons in 2025 to 1,064 in 2026.
3. Injuries declined by 25.35%, from 576 injured persons in 2025 to 430 in 2026.

FRSC said the results represent “hundreds of lives protected and families spared the devastating consequences of road traffic crashes.”

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed credited the performance to strategic deployment of personnel and assets across critical corridors nationwide. Operations included round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-driven surveillance, motorised chain patrols, prompt rescue interventions, traffic calming measures, stakeholder collaborations, and sustained public education campaigns.

He commended officers, Special Marshals, and collaborating agencies for their dedication and professionalism. The Corps Marshal also thanked motorists and road users who obeyed traffic rules and safety advisories during the festive season.

While celebrating the gains, Mohammed reassured Nigerians of FRSC’s commitment to strengthening interventions and deepening stakeholder engagement to achieve even greater reductions in crashes, injuries, and fatalities. He urged all road users to sustain safety culture beyond festive periods, stressing that “road safety remains a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of every Nigerian.”
