Makinde Begins Contributory Pension Scheme for New Oyo Workers

Oyo State Pensions Board Chairman Tunji Adekunle has announced that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the immediate commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in the state.

In a statement released by Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade, Adekunle disclosed through a circular issued via the Permanent Secretary of the Post Service Board, Rev. Adekunle Victor Adesola, that the scheme will apply to officers employed into Oyo State service from January 1, 2025, with formal implementation beginning July 1, 2026.

Under the new structure, pension contributions will be split between the state government, contributing 12 per cent, and employees, contributing 8 per cent.

Adekunle assured that the government would ensure prompt payment of accrued benefits to affected employees once the scheme takes effect.

To facilitate smooth implementation, he directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to submit a comprehensive list of employees recruited into the state’s civil and public service from January 1, 2025, using a designated Excel proforma, with submissions required in both hard and soft copy formats.

Each MDA has also been instructed to appoint a dedicated Pension Desk Officer to serve as a liaison with the Pensions Board, a measure aimed at improving coordination, accountability, and efficient processing of pension-related matters.

The circular specified that desk officer nominations should include full name, designation, grade level, and contact details including phone number, email, and WhatsApp number.

All required information and supporting documents are to be submitted to the Board on or before Monday, June 22, 2026.
