Saudi Arabia, Portugal sign visa exemption deal for diplomatic and special passport holders

Saudi Arabia and Portugal have signed an agreement granting mutual visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and special passports, marking a new step in strengthening relations between the two countries.The agreement was signed in Lisbon on Tuesday by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel.The agreement aims to facilitate travel and communication between the two countries while enhancing joint coordination and expanding areas of bilateral cooperation.The signing took place during Prince Faisal’s official visit to Portugal, where the two ministers also held extensive discussions on regional and international developments.During the talks, Prince Faisal congratulated Portugal on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term. He expressed confidence that Portugal’s membership would contribute to international peace and security.The Saudi foreign minister also thanked Portugal for its support on regional issues, including its official recognition of the State of Palestine and backing for peaceful initiatives aimed at implementing the two-state solution.Prince Faisal further praised Portugal for hosting the King Abdullah International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Lisbon, highlighting the organisation’s role in promoting dialogue, understanding and coexistence among different cultures and faiths.
