Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Busy Sallah Holiday Packed With Political and State Engagements

President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Tuesday after spending the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos, during which he took part in a packed schedule of political, governmental, and diplomatic activities.

The President touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport aboard Nigeria Air Force One at approximately 5:17 p.m. and was welcomed by a number of senior government officials, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu.

Throughout the holiday, Tinubu received several delegations as part of the traditional Sallah homage visits.

Among those who called on him were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other members of the Senate leadership, as well as members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

He also hosted APC stakeholders from Oyo State and candidates who emerged from the party’s recently conducted primaries.

The President’s time in Lagos also coincided with the conclusion of the All Progressives Congress primaries covering the presidency, governorship, National Assembly, and state Houses of Assembly in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu participated in the APC presidential primary and was returned as the party’s presidential candidate, having secured broad support from delegates and party members across the country.

On Monday, the President attended the International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront, an event held as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.

At the ceremony, he commissioned three new naval vessels NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila, and NNS Gurara and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering maritime security and enhancing the Navy’s operational capacity.

Tinubu also held bilateral talks with Benin Republic President Romuald Wadagni while in Lagos, with discussions covering regional cooperation, economic ties, and the relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

Taken together, the engagements reflected a holiday period that was anything but restful, as the President balanced official responsibilities, political commitments, and national celebrations throughout the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
