Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Sunday to congratulate him on his 80th birthday and discuss bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington.
According to Kremlin aide Yri Ushakov, the conversation lasted just under an hour, during which Trump once again called for an end to the war in Ukraine.
The two leaders also agreed that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Russia again in the near future. Furthermore, Putin told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants a meeting, he should come to Moscow, though it remains an offer that Zelensky has consistently rejected.
The Kremlin handout also indicated that Trump informed Putin that an agreement in the war between the US and Iran is imminent and may be announced later Sunday.
Trump simultaneously held a separate conversation with Zelensky on Sunday, where the Ukrainian president also extended birthday congratulations to the US president.
“We have had quite a detailed discussion about many key things – peace, surely, was among them,” Zelensky said.
The discussions are set to progress further in person on the global stage.
“We agreed that we will discuss more during our meeting at the G7 Summit,” Zelensky added, referring to the annual meeting of leaders of the Group of Seven nations taking place in France this week.
