2027: SDP begins uploading guber and state assembly candidates to INEC portal

Social Democratic Party (SDP) says it has commenced the upload of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the exercise began on Saturday following the successful upload of its presidential and National Assembly candidates.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday in Abuja, the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Ayenigba, said the party was making steady progress and had encountered no challenges in the process.

According to him, the timeframe provided by INEC enabled the party to recover from delays experienced at the initial stage of the nomination exercise.

“We commenced the exercise on Saturday after the successful completion of the presidential and National Assembly candidates.

“The window given to the political parties by INEC actually assisted us in covering the lost ground experienced at the initial stage.

“The governorship and State Assembly candidates’ upload is in top gear. We have no problem at all. Our trained staff are working round the clock to meet the commission’s deadline. We are very comfortable with the exercise,” Ayenigba said.

He commended INEC for the manner in which the exercise was being conducted, expressing optimism that the commission would sustain what he described as a transparent process.

Ayenigba said the party hoped the electoral body would continue to ensure a credible process that would culminate in peaceful and widely accepted elections.

He also urged SDP members across the country to remain calm, insisting that the party had resolved its internal challenges.

According to him, the party is now united under the leadership of its National Chairman, Professor Abubakar Sadiq Gombe, adding that its participation in the ongoing candidate upload exercise demonstrates that the crisis within the party has been resolved.
