Ghanaian businessman Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has reportedly been extradited to the United States, according to a report by Asaase News.
The development comes weeks after the High Court in Accra dismissed a legal challenge from Kumi’s lawyers and affirmed a lower court’s decision clearing the way for his extradition to face charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, in connection with an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme targeting elderly victims in the United States.
According to the report, the reported extradition came hours after Kumi’s lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, claimed he had been denied access to his client after Kumi was taken to the Police Hospital in Accra, before reportedly departing the country on a Delta Airlines flight from Kotoka International Airport.

Abu Tricq has been in custody since his arrest in December 2025 during a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation.
He was previously granted bail of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties, but was rearrested following the High Court’s ruling to facilitate the extradition process. His legal team had signaled intentions to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
