Jigawa govt, Lafiya Nigeria partner to boost reproductive healthcare, maternal services

Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lafiya Nigeria to strengthen reproductive healthcare services and improve maternal health outcomes across the state.

The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Malam Umar Namadi following a request by the Ministry of Health to collaborate with Lafiya Nigeria through the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA).

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, said the partnership is aimed at enhancing the delivery of quality reproductive health services through strategic interventions in primary healthcare facilities.

According to him, the collaboration will focus on capacity building for healthcare workers, provision of technical support, improved service delivery, community engagement, and the implementation of evidence-based reproductive health programmes across the state.

Musa noted that the initiative is expected to reinforce the state government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and improving access to quality maternal and reproductive health services.

He added that the partnership aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s healthcare agenda and will support ongoing efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage by reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, expanding access to family planning services, improving antenatal and postnatal care, and promoting informed reproductive health decisions among residents.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the collaboration would further complement the administration’s drive to improve primary healthcare services and enhance the wellbeing of women, children, and families throughout Jigawa.
