Kumawood Actor Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi Dies After Battle With Kidney Failure

Veteran Kumawood actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi has reportedly passed away after a long battle with kidney failure.
Kumasi-based Akoma FM first reported the sad news on Saturday, July 18, 2026, leading to an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues and members of Ghana’s film industry.
Obuobi’s health condition had become public in recent months after fellow actors and industry players supported him financially during his treatment.
Kumawood actor Kojo Nkansah LilWin donated GH¢10,000 towards his medical expenses, while veteran actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu contributed GH¢50,000 to support his kidney transplant.
Despite the support from colleagues and well-wishers, the actor could not recover.
Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi was respected in the Kumawood industry for his work as both an actor and filmmaker. He built a career spanning several years and contributed significantly to Ghanaian movie production.
Tributes continue to pour in as the Kumawood community mourns the loss of one of its respected figures.
