LAUTECH Hospital Visits Rescued Pupils After 56 Days in Captivity

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Prof. Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, has visited pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State who were recently rescued after spending 56 days in captivity.

According to a statement issued by the hospital on Wednesday, Oyelaran-Oyeyinka visited the victims on Tuesday in their various wards, where they are currently receiving medical treatment and psychological support following their rescue.

In a post shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Oyelaran-Oyeyinka disclosed that he interacted with the pupils, teachers, and their family members, encouraging them to remain hopeful despite the traumatic ordeal they had endured.

He assured the victims that the hospital would continue providing comprehensive medical and psychosocial care to support their recovery.

“We are grateful to God that you returned safely to your families.

While no one can erase the painful memories of the past 56 days, I encourage you to be strong and look forward with hope,” he said.

“The management and staff of this hospital will continue to provide the best medical and psychological care to support your complete recovery.”

Oyelaran-Oyeyinka also commended the management and healthcare workers of the teaching hospital for their dedication to treating the rescued victims.

“I appreciate the commitment of our doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the victims receive quality care.

Your compassion and professionalism reflect the core values of this institution,” he said.

According to the statement, the visit reaffirmed the Governing Council’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery and continued support for victims of traumatic incidents.

It was reported that the victims were among 46 pupils and teachers abducted by gunmen on May 15, 2026, after attackers invaded Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

They regained their freedom on July 10 after spending 56 days in captivity and were subsequently admitted to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for medical evaluation, treatment, and psychological support.
