NMDPRA gives figures of imported fuel in June as domestic supply drops

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in its factsheet released on Monday, has revealed that oil marketers imported about 18.1 million litres per day (lpd) of petrol in June 2026, up from 5.9 million lpd imported in May, as supply to the domestic market from the Dangote Refinery decreased during the month under review.

According to the NMDPRA, total petrol supply to the domestic market dropped from 41.5 million lpd in May to 32.45 million lpd in June. The Dangote Refinery supplied 32.5 million lpd to the domestic market from its total production of 39.1 million lpd.

Notwithstanding the lower supply to the domestic market, the factsheet showed that overall petrol consumption increased from 46.3 million lpd in May 2026 to 47.4 million lpd in June.

It also reported that diesel, also known as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), supply dropped from 18.8 million lpd in May 2026 to 16.2 million lpd in June 2026, with domestic supply also declining from 18.8 million lpd in May to 16.2 million lpd in June, with zero imports. In total, diesel consumption stood at 16.0 million lpd in June, the same level recorded in May.

For Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), otherwise known as cooking gas, the report revealed that 3.6 kilotonnes per day (kt/d) was supplied to the local market in June, compared with 4.0 kt/d supplied in May 2026.

In total, cooking gas consumption dropped from 4.5 kt/d in May 2026 to 4.1 kt/d in June 2026.
